World Game Project to highlight Western games in Japan
by Jeff Mattas
Sony has announced a new promotion called the World Game Project, which will highlight games with Western design sensibilities for event attendees in Japan. Mr. Murata, the project’s faceless mascot clothed in Reservoir Dogs attire (shown above), was apparently seen wandering around this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo convention as well.
To be held in Akihabara on July 23, the event will let participants play games like Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Infamous 2, Resistance 3, and Shadows of the Damned, and video footage for other titles will be on-tap as well. Astute observers will note that Shadows of the Damned–while not actually a Western-developed title–definitely utilizes a Western 3rd-person shooter design ethos.
The World Game Project promotion seems like a pretty cool way to expose folks across the sea to Western games, though it would also be great to see the same sort of thing happen in the U.S.
