Wii U specs, price and release date revealed

At a recent Nintendo Conference more details were revealed regarding the upcoming Wii U  including price, date of release and specs (which everyone was anticipating). Interestingly enough though specific details were not revealed regarding the systems CPU and GPU aka the “power”.

 

The details goes as follows:

  • The Wii U will be launching in the United States on Sunday, Nov. 18th.
  • Wii U is available in a Black 32GB Deluxe Set ($349.99) and a White 8GB Basic Set($299.99)
  • Nintendoland available with Deluxe set and enrolled in Deluxe digital promotion
  • All sets include system, Game Pad, system and Game Pad AC adapters, and HDMI cable. Nintendo Network Premium provides points for purchases by Premium Set customers, 10% points back on digital purchases depending on the title, to be applied toward future purchases.
  • Nintendo TVii announced.
  • Full HD support up to 1080p
  • GPU is able to perform general computing tasks.
  • Main memory is 1 GB.
  • System memory is 1 GB
  • Total console memory is 2GB.
  • Game discs store up to 25 GB, and stream up to 22.5 MB/s
  • 75 watts of maximum power consumption
  • Average power consumption is 45 watts.
  • Bayonet 2 announced: Published by Nintendo
  • The Wonderful 101 announced: Originally Project Zero.
  • Backwards compatibility with all Wii games, remotes and accessories.
  • Activision announced: Wipe out 3, 007: Legends, Transformer: Prime and Skylanders: Giants,
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was demo’d as well, with the controller being used as a second screen in substitute of “Split screen.” Instead of players cutting a TV in half, one player can use the controller screen, once can use the TV.
  • Over 50 games available from release to March.
  • Virtual Console and Wii Ware games from the Wii are transferable to the Wii U.
  • Games and video are viewable on the Wii U GamePad. It features smooth, low latency with low lag.
  • Multiplayer is playable with both the Wii remotes and Wii Gamepad with duel screen functionality.
  • Miiverse is the system-level social network interface. “You aren’t the only one playing.”
  • New Super Mario Brothers 2 is the first launch Mario since the Nintendo 64.
  • Both New Super Mario Brothers 2 and Nintendo land will be available as down load and disk on launch day.
  • Wii U GamePad is when sold separately.
  • The Pro Controller will be available in white and black with a chargeable USB cable.

  • GamePad charger and play stand set to be available as a package.
  • Nintendo Network Premium runs through Dec. 2014.
  • Premium includes controller stands.
  • Wii accessories not included with the Wii U.
