Top 5 Game companies who used to care about the gamers but not anymore
Game companies use to be like College Football teams back in the 90’s. They worked hard to crank out the hits, place dedication in games, and impress you with passion and hard work. On the other hand they were hungry and most likely had drive to see gaming as a whole succeed. Now-a-days they are like that Pro Football player who strikes and acts almost pre-Madonna like. What do I mean by this? Some game companies make games based on their reputation not with passion; with the attitude of “Oh you will buy our game…..! We are “such and such!” With that being said let’s name some of the biggest culprits.
EA – In the 90’s this company made games like: Road Rash, NBA Live, Alone in the Dark, Triple Play, Golden Eye, Medal of Honor, and the famous Madden series
Now they either stop making some of these titles or the titles are crap. Take Madden for instance; EA doesn’t really make games these days so much as acquiring I.P.’s. Heck in a span of 8 years 2K decimated what use to be one of EA’s specialties, SPORTS! NBA Live…..GONE!! Who knows, if it hadn’t been for acquiring the NFL license Madden may have suffered the same fate. Why? They were coasting on reputation and holier than though attitude.
CAPCOM – While not as bad as the previous mention they did make better games in the past like: Mega Man, Resident Evil, Strider, Bionic Commando, Final Fight, Breath of Fire, and Street Fighter 2
They still make great games, but in the DLC and after market world saying this company slaps people in the face would be the clean way of stating that point.
KONAMI – This company use to be king of cranking out hit after hit: Castlevania 1-3, Double Dribble, Frogger, Contra, Blades of Steel, Rush’n Attack, Yu-Gi-OH, and the MGS series
Although they had the hits they soon began putting out re-makes, and broken titles. I can only take so much Dance Dance Revolution.
Square Enix – When the two companies were separate they were never more prominent with games like: Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Act Raizer, Chrono Trigger and of course Final Fantasy series
After they merged you’d have thought the hits would be no brainers right? These days in my opinion FF is going downhill fast or they hardly release anything at all or leave us wanting in sequels that we look forward to, like Kingdom Hearts and Chrono Trigger, but make sequels like FF-X2 and FF13-2 WTF?
Nintendo – Who didn’t love games like: Metroid, Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong Country, Pokemon and Super Mario Bros.?
Now we ask “Why are we still getting Metroid, Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, and Super Mario Bros. GAMES!!” Talk about the king of the rehashes! Sure people enjoy these games, but dang Nintendo when was the last time you made a new I.P.?
Looking at things now in the gaming world, one would think giving the middle finger to games is the norm. In their quest to make more money, bring gaming main stream and appease casual gamers the industries biggest devs have turned it on it’s ear. I for one am in a state of disbelief. Sure these companies still make hit titles, but it seems to be the exception rather than the rule these days. Well maybe it’s just me, and maybe I’m overreacting, but back in the day when you bought from these guys it was never a question of “Is this game going to be good?” It was “How good do you think this game will be.” The answer to that question was a inevitable better than what you imagined.
What do you think though? CCU wants to hear from you.

I’ve been a long time fan and Nintendo console owner since 1989. In the 80’s & 90’s Nintendo was making groundbreaking games that opened the envelope like Mario 64.
However as a long time fan I see the continuation of these same franchises I grew up on. I still love them but as it is. Since last Generation when I stopped using my Gamecube as much and played PS2 99% of the time.
I found it hard to go back to Nintendo. PS2 had so many great games FFX,KH 1 & 2, Drakengard 1 & 2, Wild arms Alter Code F, 5, XenoSaga trilogy, Disgaea 1 & 2, The Ps2 had more games developed for it than any other system ever made.
on July 2007 I bought a 60 GB PS3. I used it here and there still playing and buying import PS2 games like Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix+, Tales of Destiny Director’s Cut, Tales of Destiny 2, Another Century’s Episode 2, Guilty Gear games, Super Robot Taisen alpha 3, and more.
Since June 2008 with MGS4 SONY has released a lot of new Exclusive titles from 3rd parties and First party titles that remain unbelievable like Uncharted 2,3, Killzone 2,3, Valkyria Chronicles, Tales of Graces F, Demon’s Souls, Heavenly Sword, and many more.
SONY has fantastic new First Party franchises they release every Generation. This gen they released.
Heavenly Sword
Littlebig Planet
Uncharted
Resistance
Killzone
Infamous
White Knight Chronicles
Demon’s Souls
Heavy Rain
Motorstorm.
those are some of the 1st party franchises sony owns and there are more to come for PS3.
you are correct…..but Sony should have hit hard out the gate if they wanted to over come the 360…….maybe next Gen they will get it right, but I love most of those games you named
Sony should have been at the top of this list. They are a bunch of arrogant retards that lie to cover their mistakes almost every single time. Overhype and underdeliver all the way
I couldnt agree with you….they promise big and deliever late is what I would say….killzone lived up to the hype, but you dont promise people and keep them waiting forever. Id say Sony should not promise…they should shut their trap and just deliver
NINTENDO IS UP HERE! the Wii U is a fan made system & has always been cheap,Sony has always been expensive & mircosoft doesn’t care at all if you hack up the system or games for that fact
pikman pikman pikman
List doesn’t include recent new IPs such as Pushmo, Dillion’s Rolling Western, Ketzal’s Corridors, etc
To state that Nintendo doesn’t make new IPs is complete bs.
Since the link didn’t get approved I will post a few more new IPs since 2000.
Luigi’s Mansion, Pikmin, Wii Sports, WarioWare, Chibi Robo, Excitebots/Truck, Elite Beat Agents, Endless Ocean, Battalion Wars, Mario & Luigi, Golden Sun
If you count unpopular and non AAA titles I guess you are right!
Please take Capcom off this list. Capcom has continued to make great games. Once in a while a miss or too. I wont blame them for DLC
*miss or two
Really? Im a huge capcom fan….I love mega man and street fighter and more of their games, bur what they did with Street fighter four and Treet fighter X tekken is en-excusable!! as of late RE 6 is a good game but even with that game they went south. You just have to be honest if we dont game companies will keep doing what they are doing and by the time we do say somehting it will be too late.
Nintendo, King of the “rehashes”!? Give me a break! Nintendo give us 1, occasionally 2 Zelda’s, Mario’s and Metroid each generation, and each being built solely as the definitive of its series. This gen Nintendo has given us – for the Wii – ONLY Skyward Sword (since Twilight is a Gamecube game), Metroid Trilogy and Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, so thats FOUR games across the span of 3 exclusives! FIVE Assassin Creeds SO FAR, THREE Uncharted’a, Ive lost count how many Call of Duty’s! Nintendo, king of the rehash!? If by “rehash” you mean building a games once a generation which takes full advantage of the particular console which houses it then yes, ok…
Wii- Super Mario Galaxy 2007. New Super Mario Bros Wii 2009. Super Mario Galaxy 2 2010.
Ds- Super Mario 64 DS 2004-2005. New Super Mario Bros 2006.
3ds- Super Mario 3D Land 2011. New Super Mario Bros 2 2012.
Wii U- New Super Mario Bros U 2012.
ok count the total amount of Games Mario is in and then get back to me WHO THE HECK WANTS TO SEE LINK any more when there are tons of better RPG characters out there than him? Common dont be a fan boy on this man! im shocked donkey kong hasnt made a come back heck Kid iccarus did LOL……nintendo is an ambitious hardware company, but when it comes to games they just keep leaning on MARIO
I’m surprised Rare isn’t part of that list, for obvious reasons.
Look guiys I like most of the companies on this list but truth is truth……If we dont stop being fan boys no matter what system or what company we will keep getting the same old same old and I dont know about you but I pay good money for my gaming!!
