Microsoft next Xbox console specs — details
Codenamed Durango, the next generation Xbox specs have rolled out and it looks like it could be a “monster”.
Reported by Sillegamer.com via a source close to Xbox World magazine have revealed that Durango’s devkit (developers kit) features:
- 16-core IBM PowerPC CPU
- GPU comparable to AMD’s Radeon HD 7000-series graphics cards
- Blu-Ray optical drive
Next Xbox (Concept)
Some other things that stood out to me in the article was the fact, like I reported on the Next PlayStation possible launch date (and specs) the next Xbox seems to also be set to launch late 2013. And 16 cores, 16 cores!!! Jeesh that’s a lot of cores, wonder what they’re going to do with all that power! Also the mention of the integration of the Blu-Ray Drive — agh the inevitable rears it’s big head. A lot of gamers felt the Xbox 360 held this generation back by deciding to go the DVD route thus not giving developers a “playground” to work with to make bigger, better games. So it’s good to here of this inclusion. Finally according to some “discrete sources” at GDC (Game Developers Conference) their confirming that developers expect the Next PlayStation to be more powerful.
What do you think of the specs? What do you feel about the reveals? CCU wants to hear from you.
