Naughty Dog produced games don’t work on my PS3

It’s ironic as well as disheartening that one of my favorite developers this gen Naughty Dog, the creators of Uncharted, Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3 and The Last of Us; thus my favorite  games don’t work on my console sometimes. It’s a true hit or miss when I insert these  games into my PS3. Let me explain.

It all started I believe with Uncharted 2, there are times when I insert these games into my PS3 that the system does not recognize the disc. At the time of the first experience of this of course, normal course of action is to troubleshoot and problem solve. Is the disc scratched? No. Is the blu-ray drive conking? No.  Are other games working with the system? Yes.

So what I thought, at the time was a isolated innocent started to become a trend with subsequent Naughty Dog-led titles thereafter (Uncharted 3, The Last of Us). It was isolated alright — isolated to one company. They say two things is a coincidence, three is a Conspiracy…well…lmbooo. 🙂

Funny enough this never happens when I first buy the game it’s after I finish the game and several patches later; when I want to go back to these games to replay them it occurs.

I did notice a greenish-orange, psychedelic hue embedded on the blu-ray disc; the side on the disc responsible for reading content, which is a different design from any of  the other games I own; seems exclusive to ND. I wonder if that has something to do with it.

I also did contact Sony for help on the issue but at the time I could not run the proper tests to determine what was the underlying problem —  they told me to test it on someone elses PS3…I think I’ll follow up.

Has a similar occurrence happen to you? CCU wants to hear from you.

  1. It sounds like a problem with your bluray drive reading dual layer discs. U2,U3and TLOU all use them. Naughty Dog games are HUGE and the cinematics and/or the multiplayer is on a separate layer of the disc. It is very rare in the industry because most games are multiplat and have to fit on DVD for 360 and also the prerendered cinematics take up a lot of space. Anyway contact sony about it they may be able to repair or replace your drive.
